iPad Pro is better for media consumption, MacBook Air is better for work.
I have both, I use my iPad as a dual screen setup at work. It becomes a perfect portable work station.
Unless you use Apple Pencil, a tablet OS can not beat a full fledged OS with 15+ battery life.
Also, MBA is surprisingly more portable.
I use a 16gb/1TB MBA, and have a
8gb/512gb iPad Pro.

I will say, if you’re using an external monitor most of the time, you may not care about the refresh rate of the 13’ M2 MacBook Air. It will be able to put out a higher refresh rate on an external display.
ipad would probably have 7yrs of software support while air and pro would most likely have 8 to 9 os updates. windows and traditional computers are the way to go. so go with air or pro if you really like apple
I recently went 11" iPad Pro instead of a Mac. iPadOS is a SAD clown.... holy cow. I didn't know iPadOS was this bad.... do not buy an iPad unless you Draw or sketch or have a very specific need for Apple pencil. if you don't NEED apple pencil, Buy a MAC......

I have an iMac m1 and an iPad Pro 11” and it’s the best combination. My iMac is for all my work—my iPad is for travel, reading, photo editing and watching movies on the go. I just bought a Logitech keyboard case so I can do uni on my iPad when I have to travel and it’s just fantastic. Portability KING.

i live in greece. The m2 iPad Pro 12.9 inch Base model costs 1559 euros and the base model m2 MacBook Air costs 1599 euros. The high end iPad Pro with 2TB ssd and 12.9 inch and with 5G costs 3219 euros! This is hilarious!
iPad on MacOS would be the perfect middle ground between home desktop setup and iPhone
