The US Department of Defence has allocated more than $500 million for the production of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missile interceptors. The customers are the United States and eight foreign countries. The new $556 million agreement is a modification of contract W31P4Q-20-C-0023. Work will take place at Lockheed Martin plants in California, Florida, Missouri, Kansas, Arizona, Vermont, New York, Arkansas, Massachusetts and Texas. In addition to the U.S. Army, PAC-3 recipients include Switzerland, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain. The Patriot PAC-3 is the US Army's lead guided air and missile defence system. It provides the ability to intercept enemy air threats using the hit-to-kill principle, thus the missile does not have a full-fledged warhead. The surface-to-air missile system consists of several launchers, a radar system, and a control centre. The radar is responsible for providing airspace surveillance. It can detect, identify and track targets. The launcher is capable of simultaneously launching 12 to 16 PAC-3 interceptors, depending on the configuration. The Ukrainian Air Force has demonstrated that the MIM-104 Patriot can shoot down aeroballistic / hypersonic and ballistic Russian missiles.

Sidom MBT - The Polish Armed Forces have taken delivery of PAC-3 MSE interceptor missiles, the main armament of the IBCS/Patriot air defense missile set purchased under the Vistula program. The delivery of the PAC-3 MSE missiles was announced by Armaments Agency spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Krzysztof Płatek. He emphasized that the delivery of Vistula system elements was carried out sequentially, and in addition to launchers, radars, related equipment and IBCS system elements, PAC-3 MSE missiles were also delivered.

South Korea has approved a plan to buy more Lockheed Martin-made Patriot Advanced Capability-3 missiles to enhance its defense. Under the plan, which was endorsed May 30 by a top decision-making committee of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the government will spend 750 billion won (U.S. $600 million) over the next five years to procure PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement weapons. The government did not disclose a quantity for the missile interceptors. The DAPA committee also approved a plan to upgrade the existing PAC-2 launchers for use with PAC-3 platforms. The PAC-2 launcher enables missiles to intercept hostile targets at an altitude of about 20 kilometers (12 miles), whereas the PAC-3 launcher can destroy incoming missiles at an altitude of 40 kilometers. The PAC-3 MSE uses a two-pulse, solid-fuel rocket motor that increases altitude and range to defend against evolving threats. “The latest decision to get more PAC-3 interceptor missiles is aimed at improving the existing air defense system over the Seoul metropolitan area and key state facilities,” DAPA said in a statement. “The buy of more PAC-3 missiles will help enhance our missile defense capability to thwart the ballistic missile threat.” South Korea’s decision to boost its missile intercepting capability came about a week after its northern neighbor fired three ballistic missiles, including a possible intercontinental ballistic missile, toward waters off the Korean Peninsula’s east coast. The missiles were fired shortly after U.S. President Joe Biden wrapped up a trip to the region, where he pledged efforts to strengthen deterrence against the North’s increasing nuclear threat. South Korea has been developing its own a missile shield, called the Korea Air and Missile Defense, a terminal-phase, lower-tier, overlapping missile defense system. The KAMD consists of an early warning system, a command-and-control system, and an intercept system. For interception, the South Korean military has acquired Patriot missiles and medium-range surface-to-air missiles. It is also developing a long-range surface-to-air missile system with an extended intercept range using domestic technology as part of efforts to help improve its capability to defeat incoming ballistic missiles.

A German-modified M903 launcher successfully launched a Lockheed Martin PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) interceptor in a flight test today. The Germany Tactical Test / Operational Test 3 flight test was conducted by the German Air Force against a virtual tactical ballistic missile target to prove compatibility between PAC-3 MSE and the German-modified Patriot M903 launching station. MBDA Deutschland partnered with Lockheed Martin to perform the necessary modifications of the launcher to enable the integration of the PAC-3 MSE missile. The test was a critical final step before Lockheed Martin delivers the first shipment of PAC-3 MSEs to Germany.

Зенітно-ракетний комплекс «Петріот» на озброєнні в Сполучених Штатах із 1981 року, а вперше застосований у 1991-му. Тоді під час операції «Буря в пустелі» комплекси «Петріот» використовували проти іракських ракет «Ель-Хусейн», що є удосконаленою версією радянської Р-17 «Скад» із дальністю полоту 300 км. Ними Ірак обстрілював Ізраїль та Саудівську Аравію. Зараз ЗРК Петріот є на озброєнні армій 15-ти країн. У серпні 2014-го ізраїльські батареї цих комплексів збили два БПЛА ХАМАС під час операції «Непорушна скеля», у вересні того ж року знищили бомбардувальник Су-24 ВПС Сирії, хоча є припущення, що літак був російський. ПAК-3 є останньою і найбільш досконалою версією американських зенітних ракетних комплексів класу Patriot. Тут використовується високоманеврова протиракета прямого влучення Ерінт, а кожна пускова установка може містити до 16 ракет-перехоплювачів замість 4-х, як у попередніх версіях. Ерінт насамперед створювалася як перехоплювач нижнього рубежу протиракетної оборони. Ракета має активну радіолокаційну головку самонаведення. Вона створює "профіль" цілі та визначає точку прицілювання, а саме - відсік бойового навантаження. Тож збита балістична ракета при падінні вже не вибухне. Один комплекс Петріот може одночасно обстрілювати 8 цілей, а зенітно-ракетна батарея має 4-ри пускові установки. Ще до комплексу входять багатофункціональна радіолокаційна станція, пункт керування вогнем, джерела енергопостачання, засоби зв’язку, а також радіотехнічного та інженерного маскування. The weight of the warhead is 73 kg. The Patriot anti-aircraft missile system has been in service in the United States since 1981, and was first used in 1991. The PAK-3 is the latest and most advanced version of the American anti-aircraft missile systems of the Patriot class. It uses the Erint highly maneuverable direct hit anti-missile, and each launcher can carry up to 16 interceptor missiles instead of 4, as in previous versions. Erint was primarily created as an interceptor of the lower line of anti-missile defense. The missile has an active radar homing head. It creates a "profile" of the target and determines the aiming point, namely - the combat load compartment. So a downed ballistic missile will no longer explode when it falls. One Patriot complex can fire at 8 targets at the same time, and the anti-aircraft missile battery has 4 launchers. The complex also includes a multi-functional radar station, a fire control point, power supply sources, means of communication, as well as radio engineering and engineering masking. Up to 90 specialists are required to maintain one Patriot battery with 4 launchers. The provision of complexes of these air defense systems to Ukraine also involves a training process.
