Microsoft's Dev Kit running Windows on Arm shows commitment. But is it enough to dethrone Apple? Purchase 70mai Dash Cam Omni (sponsored): 🤍bit.ly/3GY0p2c 70mai official website (sponsored): 🤍🤍70mai.com/omni Microsoft has released its 2022 developer kit running a Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 (Microsoft SQ3 SoC) and they've done a lot of work to Windows to ensure full Arm compatibility and full suite support for Visual Studio 2022. It's clear Microsoft wants developers to port their x86 binaries to Arm, but the hardware is a bit... erm... underwhelming. Is 'fetch' going to happen? Dear my girlfriend she bough an Compaq Pressario ARM notebook with SSD 256, 8GB ram, Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, but it cames with windows 11, and its impossible boot any linux into it, the grub is recognezed but after that the I/O stops. How could break this win 11 protection. Thanks
its more of a surface duo in a dev box
No they aren't insane. Whatever apple does, the competition will surely copy and it, only jenkier. Also - I don't think it's fair to judge this on the hardware dev kit, it's not a finished product. The future of Arm in personal computing will definitely come when other chip makers (Intel, AMD etc) make Arm SoCs that can rival Apple Silicon in performance, and windows on arm to come of age.
And that’s comparing to 2 year old M1 base model. Just think about M3 Ultra, not even a remote comparison 💀
Are you having problems with your monitor? It seems like it doesn't play well with HDR monitors.
(Warning: All sales are final. No returns will be accepted once placed.)
If Microsoft cared about ARM they would stop using Qualcomm. Feels like they are only doing this to satisfy shareholders.
You said “jumping at the bit” in the last chapter - that’s an egg-corn I haven’t heard before! It’s “champing at the bit” (refers to horses)
I am one of the few that is really against an ARM based world. It seems that ARM can really hinder right to repair. You can't just upgrade your ram or hard drive or cpu or gpu or replace them if they go bad. I left Apple when they started soldering every damn component and now you can't even unsolder the component. You basically have to buy a whole new computer since everything is on one chip. I don't care how much more efficient ARM is right now.
as long as arm remains to be a soldered on non upgradable, un-repairable land fill device i wont care either lmao
double the performance for double the price 🤷♂
Its a dev kit lol
what micorsoft made is a joke at best and its way slower then even the M1 mini it also has the same down sides that apple started with as well in gaming infact i think the microsloft one from what ihave seen is even worse the the apple M1 mini at games . apple has nothing to worry about thats for sure..
I am not in the apple ecosystem that deep, I use my m1 13 inch macbook pro as a slightly more capable chrome book. in the mac mini form factor I have x86 convenience from minis forum machines (with UPGRADEABILITY, APPLE!). I would like to see windows on arm reach feature parity with standard windows, the silicon options aren't nearly as good as apple at the moment however. I really just want a macbook alternative with the same battery life and not MacOS.... maybe an m.2 slot for user upgrades too.
Windows is having the same problem with ARM and Apple has with Games. They really REALLY care, but developers don't.
Has this guy been living under a rock? There's been a ton of devices with arm chips way before Apple.
The idea of Mac users thinking M1 is “old hat” has aged poorly based on M2 sales lol
Microsoft’s arm won’t take off as well as Apple. Apple pretty much forced developers to convert their apps to arm, because their hardware is all on arm now and they control the hardware. As for windows, 90% of users will still use x64 and developers won’t feel the need to convert their apps to arm, because Microsoft does not control hardware.
The title fooled me, I casually read "Microsoft made a mac-mini", and then I revised " Microsoft made a what??! ".
I had to re-read to understand that it said Microsoft and mac mini only..
According to countless posts and videos I've seen about M1 and M2 Mac mini, about their "Performances"My 15 (in words Fifteen) years old Linux run Laptop, (Lower price end OEM) can do things Apple can't: I hit the power button and without "searching for solutions" I have FUNCTIONAL WIFI AND BLUETOOTH! Both are, of cause ancient, but they ...actually work! Should the cause of these issues been identified and solved I'd love to hear! I had already decided to buy; but when I searched for the reach of M2 onboard Bluetooth, I stumbled upon one desperate post after another! I would love to switch to Mac, but not to have to fix malfunctions that are even worse than the those on my gear!
